If you’re wondering about the name Roya — it means dream in Persian.
Hi, I'm Neda
It felt like the only name for a brand built around a simple belief: that how your family rests is one of the most loving things you can choose.
I WAS THAT MUM
A few years ago, I was that mum.
Juggling a demanding legal career, three kids, and the invisible weight of holding everything together. Running on fumes.
Tucking children into bed while replying to work emails, waking up to them through the night then waking at 5am to do it all over again.
I was exhausted. My kids were cranky. Bedtime felt like a nightly battle.
Something had to change.
THE RESEARCH RABBIT HOLE
As a problem-solver by nature, I couldn’t let the frustration sit.
So I started digging, into sleep science, circadian rhythms, fabric technology, temperature regulation.
And then into what’s actually in most sleepwear.
What I found was uncomfortable. Children spend close to half their lives asleep.
Adults, up to a third. And in many cases, we spend those hours wearing fabrics that contain synthetic chemicals, toxic dyes, formaldehyde, heavy metals, hormone-disrupting substance - things we’d never knowingly choose. Yet pyjamas rarely make it onto the label-reading list.
We obsess over organic food. But what our families wear to sleep? Most of us grab whatever’s on sale.
Once I knew this, I couldn’t unknow it.
THE MOMENT THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Around that time, my sister sent my kids a set of bamboo pyjamas from overseas. Beautiful ones. The kind I probably wouldn’t have bought myself the price tag would have stopped me.
But the moment my kids wore them, something shifted.
My middle child who had never willingly put on pyjamas in his life - asked to wear them. The bedtime negotiations disappeared. And they slept longer.
More deeply.
I started paying attention. Was it just comfort? Or was something else happening?
That question became Roya.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND SOMNICOOL™
One of the biggest disruptors of sleep - for children and adults alike - is temperature. Overheating causes restless sleep, micro-wakeups, and that familiar 3am moment of lying awake for no apparent reason.
Yet most sleepwear is made from fabrics that trap heat.
I spent months researching fibres, testing samples and working with manufacturers to develop something genuinely better. The result is SomniCool™ - our signature bamboo fabric blend, made from Tanboocel® bamboo lyocell. Breathable, moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating, and extraordinarily soft against sensitive skin.
Not comfort for comfort’s sake.
Comfort that helps the body stay in its natural sleep rhythm.
WHY ROYA EXISTS
Through all of this, one thing became very clear. Better sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s a foundation. Calmer kids. Easier mornings. Parents who aren’t running on empty. A household that feels, just a little, more like the one you’re trying to create.
Yet the thing we wear for thousands of hours every year is still treated as an afterthought.
Roya was created to change that - beautiful, breathable sleepwear for the whole family, because everyone deserves their best night’s sleep. Kids. Partners. And yes, you too.
